thesis? not really. Not even a paper, or a class project
It was started by jeremy a long long time ago and was one of the first
clients of the then new fusd (besides the shm work)
At some point jeremy stopped and I took over...that happened around the time
that emstar appeared.
The 'documentation' exists in multiple emails but is of course incomplete
because there was no demand for it.
The current version that has very little similarity with the original version
was described (but not completely) here:
http://www.cens.ucla.edu/pipermail/emstar-users/2004-April/000665.html
In 2 lines:
* hostmote protocol is ack-based stop and wait, with reliability implemented
from pc->mote (not the other way around)
* data protocol (referred as motenic sometimes) is ack-based stop and wait.
it sits on top of hostmote and has features such as send_done notificiations
etc (needed for emtos)
